Description
KINGS of MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’. 336-323 BC. AR Obol (9.5mm, 0.46 g, 3h). Uncertain mint. Possibly a posthumous issue. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin / Zeus Aëtophoros seated left; no visible control marks. Find patina. VF.

Although an obol without markings is unpublished, the style of the obverse is quite similar to examples of Price 3408–9 and 3417, which Price attributed to Berytos mint, but are probably issues from Byblos. It is possible that the control marks are not visible due to the thick find patina on the coin.
