Trajan. AD 98-117. AR Denarius (19mm, 3.38 g, 6h). Rome mint. Struck AD 101-102. Laureate head right / Victory seated left, holding patera and palm frond. RIC II 57; Woytek 116a; RSC 239. Lightly toned. Near EF. Robust portrait.
From the Style Collection.
Trajan’s numismatic portraiture went through several phases over his long reign. Early portraits resembled his predecessor Nerva. This “second-style” portrait depicts Trajan as a robust man in his 40s, with a thick neck and a chin set with determination, looking every inch the steely commander.

Winning bids are subject to a 20% buyer's fee for bids placed on this website, 22.50% for all others.
