Description
Antoninus Pius. AD 138-161. AR Denarius (18mm, 3.59 g, 6h). Rome mint. Struck AD 151-152. Laureate head right / TRANQ in exergue, Tranquillitas standing right, holding rudder and grain ears. RIC III 218 var. (rudder on globe); RSC 826. Choice EF. Bold portrait.
From the Style Collection.
The reign of Antoninus Pius was so tranquil he is often overlooked as one of Rome’s great emperors. Later ages looked back on his 24-year reign as a golden age, due in large part to his personal qualities. The portrait on this attractive denarius, along with the reverse image of Tranquillitas, perfectly convey his steady, guiding hand and unflappable nature.
Closing Date and Time: 20 November 2019 at 10:07:00 ET.
Winning bids are subject to a 20% buyer's fee for bids placed on this website, 22.50% for all others.
