Description
NORMAN. William I 'the Conqueror'. 1066-1087. AR Penny (19mm, 1.35 g, 12h). Two Scepters type (BMC iv). Canterbury mint; Man, moneyer. Struck circa 1072-1074. Crowned facing bust; cross-tipped scepter to left, trefoil-tipped scepter to right / + MIIN ON CIINTIILBI, cross fleurée, with annulet at center; all over cross botonnée in saltire. SCBI 42 (South-Eastern), 1742 var. (legends); BMC 228 (same dies); North 844; SCBC 1253. Toned, slightly double struck on reverse. Good VF. Very rare.
