THRACE, Hadrianopolis. Antoninus Pius. AD 138-161. Æ Tetrassarion (35.5mm, 19.62 g, 6h). C. Julius Commodus Orfitianus, legatus Augusti pro Praetore Thraciae. Struck circa AD 154/5. Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right, seen from behind / Tyche, turreted, seated left on rock, holding grain ears, resting hand on rock; foot on river-god Tonzus swimming left below. Jurukova, Hadrianopolis 12 (V11/R12); RPC IV.1 Online 9297; Varbanov 3176. Brown surfaces, roughness, patches of delamination, pierced, struck on an oversized flan. Fine. Possibly overstruck on an earlier sestertius, traces of undertype present. Very rare.
