Description
LYDIA, Thyateira. Severus Alexander. AD 222-235. Æ (30mm, 15.31 g, 7h). L. Mar. Pollianos, strategos. Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right, seen from behind / Apollo nude standing right, foot on bucranium, holding a serpent with both hands and resting left elbow on column. Kurth 411; Hochard 2594 (D171-R329); RPC VI Online 4379; BMC 121. Earthen green patina, minor porosity. Near VF. Kurth, Hochard, and RPC all cite the specimen in the British Museum, this is the second known. Extremely rare.
