IЄPOΠOΛITΩN, turreted, veiled, and draped bust of Tyche right / TΩN ΠPOC TΩ ΠYPAMΩ, river-god Pyramos swimming right, eagle to his left. Robert, Hierapolis –; SNG BN –; RPC II –. Green patina, some roughness and smoothing. VF. Extremely rare.

The common variety of this type has Pyramos holding a torch in his left hand and the city ethnic on the obverse inscribed in the opposite orientation. The river-god with the eagle is known in the Greek series two hundred years earlier but this coin clearly falls into the provincial series.
