Description
Pre-reform issues, Arab-Sasanian. In the name of Khusraw II. AR Drachm (32.3mm, 4.03 g, 10h). APN (or ST?) mint. Dated year 35 (uncertain era). Obverse margin: — / bismillah / — / —. Malek, Arab-Sasanian 1164 (ST mint); SICA 1, —; Album 4. A few scraches in fields. Good VF. Rare.
The mint-signature on this coin appears to read APN; this might be a variation of APL (probably Abarshahr), a blundered version of SLCN, or represent a completely different mint-name. Malek records a similar drachm with the mint-signature APL, bearing a date read as YE 32 (Malek, Arab-Sasanian 28), and also lists a drachm of ST dated YE 35 (no. 1164). No Khusraw II drachms from SLCN are known. The coin is of quite coarse style, and may possibly be a contemporary imitation.
The final winners of all CNG Islamic Auction 4 – Session 1 lots will be determined during the live sale that will be held on 19 October 2023.
Winning bids are subject to a 22.5% buyer's fee for bids placed on this website and 25% for all others.
