Description
EASTERN EUROPE, Imitations of Seleukos I of Syria. Late 4th-early 3rd centuries BC. AR Tetradrachm (27mm, 15.19 g, 11h). Imitating an issue of Babylon, struck circa 312-281 BC. Struck in the name of Alexander III of Macedon. Mint in the lower Danube region. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion’s skin / Zeus Aëtophoros seated left; in left field, monogram within wreath, X or star beneath throne. For prototype, cf. SC 82; cf. Price 3714. Toned, rough obverse, area of flat strike on reverse. VF.
