THRACE, Mesambria. Circa 150-125 BC. AR Tetradrachm (31.5mm, 16.30 g, 12h). In the name and types of Alexander III of Macedon. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin / Zeus Aëtophoros seated left; in inner left field, helmet above monogram; ΠP below throne. CNG E-537, lot 32 (same rev. die); cf. HGC 3, 1568 (for type); otherwise, unpublished. Toned, scattered marks, graffito on obverse. Near VF. Extremely rare, apparently the second known of this issue.
