Description
POTTERY. Greek Southern Italian Colonies. c. 4th-3rd Cent. BCE. n/a. (130 mm tall x 120 mm wide). A simple utilitarian oinochoe from Apulia. The bottom of the body is flat and wide but the general form of the pitcher is wide, expanding to a portion that’s widest just under the neck. The neck is squat and wide, leading up to a flared lip. A single short handle extends from the lip to the top of the body of the vessel. The body is simply decorated with an ivy vine, defined by borders of single lines. At top, just under the neck, a border of vertical leaves. Part of lip has been replaced/repaired with new material. A light dusting of white covers some of the surface. Most of the original red is intact. Some paint loss to original portion of lip.
