Description
BITHYNIA, Nicaea. Gordian III. AD 238-244. Æ Hectassarion (32mm, 18.21 g, 1h). Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust left, holding spear and shield decorated with gorgoneion / Hercules reclining left upon lion advancing right, extending right hand to small Eros to left, holding club in left. RG 700; RPC VII.2 1894.6 (this coin). Dark brown patina, some weakness and porosity at the periphery. VF. Very rare.
