Description
PTOLEMAIC KINGS of EGYPT. Ptolemy II Philadelphos. 285-246 BC. AR Tetradrachm (23mm, 13.07 g, 12h). Uncertain mint, imitating Ptolemaïs (Ake). Dated RY 32 (254/3 BC). Diademed head of Ptolemy I right, aegis around neck / Eagle with closed wings standing left on thunderbolt; to left, monogram above ΛΕ; to right, AB above Θ. Cf. CPE 700; cf. Lorber, Mint 6; cf. Svoronos 776; SNG Copenhagen –. Lightly toned, roughness and porosity, flan flaw on obverse. VF.
This issue has the same markings as CPE 700, a issue of Uncertain mint 23, but the style of the issues of that mint (which also produced high quality imitations of issues of Ptolemaïs) is of much higher quality than is found here. Thus, this issue is likely an imitation from a different mint.
Closing Date and Time: 11 September 2024 at 11:04:00 ET.
All winning bids are subject to a 20% buyer’s fee.
