Description
WESTERN ASIA MINOR, Uncertain (Kyzikos?). 5th century BC. AR Hemiobol(?) (7mm, 0.36 g). Head of roaring lion left / Quadripartite incuse square. Unpublished in the standard references. Toned, rough surfaces. Good VF.

The style of the lion here is a perfect match for the reverse type on early fractions of Kyzikos, but the lion head is never featured on the obverse of the city’s silver issues, and is a common type used on early Greek coinage.
