Description
ASIA MINOR, Uncertain. Vespasian. AD 69-79. Æ (24mm, 9.44 g, 1h). Dated RY 2 (AD 69/70). Laureate head right / Nike advancing left, holding wreath in outstretched right hand, palm frond in left; ETOYC B (date) in field. Ganschow, Münzen X6 (Caesarea); RPC II 2803; Sydenham Caesarea 100 (Caesarea). Black patina, roughness, flan flaw on reverse. VF.
Sydenham placed this coin in Caesarea in Cappadocia, Ganschow tentatively follows suit, but the bronze coins of that city typically have the the name of the proconsul listed along with the regnal year of the emperor. This coin type lacks any inscription naming the proconsul. RPC lists it as Uncertain Mint in Asia Minor which, for now, will have to do.
Closing Date and Time: 2 April 2025 at 12:57:40 ET.
All winning bids are subject to a 20% buyer’s fee.
