'Abbasid Caliphate. Al-Musta'sim. AH 640-656 / AD 1242-1258. AV Dinar (26.3mm, 2.94 g, 7h). Irbil mint. Dated AH 644 (AD 1246/7). wa salam tislayma in top line of reverse field; double chain border around. Jafar, Fourth ‘Abbasid Period —. Softly struck with some weakness. Good VF. Extremely rare.

The word tislayma which follows wa salam also appears on dirhams from this mint (cf. Jafar 186). The complete phrase salla Allah ‘alayhi wa salam tislayma’ is a slight adaptation of Qur’an 33:56.
