Fatimids. al-Qa’im bi-Amr Allah. AH 322-334 / AD 934-946. AV Dinar (18mm, 4.21 g, 5h). Posthumous issue. Al-Qayrawan mint. Dated AH 335 (AD 946/7). Nicol 148; Album 691. Near VF. Rare.
During the reign of al-Qa’im a rebellion against the Fatimids broke out in North Africa, led by Abu Yazid al-Nukkari. Al-Nukkari captured Qayrawan in AH 333 and al-Qa’im died in AH 334 before the rebellion could be suppressed. The present coin shows that pro-Fatimid forces had regained control of Qayrawan by AH 335, but still names the deceased imam al-Qa’im rather than his successor, al-Mansur.
