Description
Xinjiang Rebellions. Ya'qub Beg. AH 1282-1294 / AD 1865-1877. Cast Æ 50-Cash (38.6mm, 25.43 g, 12h). Struck in the name of the Ottoman Sultan Abdül Aziz. Kucha mint. Dated AH 1285 (AD 1868/9). sanat khams wa thamanin min ba’d hijrat risala, al-Sultan / ‘Abd al- ‘Aziz / Khan 85 in three lines / fi darb / madinat / Kucha in three lines. Traces of mounting at 12h. Near VF. Very rare.

Like Ya‘qub Beg’s gold tillas, this rare and interesting piece was issued in the name of the distant Ottoman Sultan Abdül Aziz. Ya‘qub captured the city of Kucha late in AH 1284 or early in AH 1285, and this commemorative issue probably marks this event. The date ‘8’ is repeated in words and numerals and is unambiguous
