LESBOS, Unattributed Koinon mint. Circa 500-480 BC. BI Twelfth Stater(?) (8.5mm, 1.07 g). Helmeted head of warrior right / Quadripartite incuse square. SNG Lockett 2772 var. (head left, different style of helmet and incuse); Savoca 25, lot 212 var. (different style of helmet and incuse). Toned, deposits. VF. Extremely rare.
The helmets on the billon coins that are published are exact matches for the style of helmets on Boehringer’s emission 30 at Phokaia, while here the helmet is a match to that of his emission 15. It is interesting that neither style are known for issues at Mytilene.
