Description
Domitian. As Caesar, AD 69-81. Æ Semis (16mm, 2.23 g, 12h). Ephesus mint(?). Struck AD 77-78. Laureate head right / Venus Victrix(?), veiled, in seated/kneeling position on pulvinar right, right leg drawn back, with hands in oration; behind, altar decorated with helmet(?) to right; S C in exergue. RIC II.1 – (Vespasian); RPC II 1488A corr. (rev. description, Uncertain mint of Asia Minor). Brown patina, cleaning marks. VF. Extremely rare, the second known, superior to the one specimen in RPC.
