Crowned GR / THE/ KINGS/ PRIUATE/ ROADS; rose above; below, RA monogram (Richard Arundul) flanked by 17 31. S. Bendall, “The King’s Private Road Passes,” in NumCirc CIII.9 (November 1995), fig. 6B/b (this piece illustrated); D&W 5; Mitchiner, Jetons 5662. Pierced for use. A few light marks, patchy toning. From the collection of Simon Bendall.

According to Bendall, the Type II passes were the most commonly issued and subsequently, the most frequently copied. Of all the specimens examined by the author, 60% were deemed to be forgeries and a survey of those offered through auction in recent years shows that a number of these are also contemporary forgeries rather than the scarcer, official issues.
